March 25, 2008

Well Folks,

You will not be hearing from me for a bit. Not that I have been Johnny on the spot lately, but this one is for real. Three weeks. I will be back in three weeks. I wanted to post some clever photo and packing list here, but the truth of the matter is that I ran out of time.

I am going to Iraq. I will be embedded at Camp Bucca in the southern end of the country. I will be home on April 16th, and hope to post a "best of" gallery at that time.

I will be blogging and posting photos at TheDay.com so keep an eye out there for updates. I will not be updating this site until I return.

Stay cool everyone! See you on the flip-side,

Tim

March update...

Thursday March 13, 2008

Here are some photos that I was meaning to post along the way but have not had time for. I have some really big things going on in my life right now as some of you know, and some of you will be finding out about soon.

New London - portrait of a homeless man.

Niantic - Farm girl at a protest. I just liked the lighting on this one.

New London - NLHS victory celebration in league tournament championship.

New London - Powerwasher.

What is all this white stuff????

Friday Feb. 22, 2008

Waterford - I recognize that it sounds strange for a New Englander to ask about snow, but it has been so long since I have seen a significant snowfall that I admit it was a nice change. Southeastern CT is boring when it comes to weather. It has been several years since we have seen a snowfall over three inches around here.

New London - I felt that the composition of this sledding photo made it slightly better than your average shot, though I admit that I wish I framed up the backgound a little cleaner.

Kinda quiet

February 19th and 20th

Niantic - This a shot from a multi-media piece that I did on a local clock repairman. Click here for audio slideshow

New London - Just a late feature on a local teen organization. I was chasing the sunset and found these guys hanging out. No matter what I tried to do earlier in the day, I had no luck what so ever.

February daze...

Monday Feb. 11, 2008

New London - "Daze" as in dazed. I got in touch with my inner college student today. I have not let him out of his cage in a while. Sitting in a coffee shop, scribbling notes in my journal, planning big plans, thinking big thoughts. What else do you do on your day off when it is 5 degrees out besides pay bills and vacuum. Might as well try to go be inspired. Some-days it is good to just go have fun and not care a whole lot while you are doing it.

brought to you by a photog having fun

A slice of Heaven???

Saturday Feb. 9, 2008

Mystic - Lunch at the somewhat famed Mystic Pizza. No Julia Roberts was not in attendance. Em and I eat here on occasion, and though not a slice of heaven, the food is not bad. I was just screwing around, so I guess you could also title this photo "A slice of boredom".

Elderly housing bomb scare

Friday Feb. 9, 2008

Waterford - An elderly housing complex had to be evacuated today due to a bomb threat. I am not sure what type of sick and twisted individual would do such a thing, but I hand it to the emergency personnel who handled the evacuation of 60 plus residents with dignity. I was not on duty, but once again, was working the night desk. I was sent to the scene as they were re-loading the busses to take the residents back to the facility after it was cleared. Not bad when I have to work the desk shift and still get front page.

This was a fire department utility truck loaded up with walkers and wheelchairs.

Connecticut Primary

Tuesday Feb. 5, 2008

Lyme - Natually I was out covering the primary vote today. I was told to try and get a real "slice of life" Connecticut voting photo. So I went to the back-woods to see what I could find. These are what I came up with. *As a side note, the woman at the left of this image was knitting stocking caps for her church. This was her second of the morning.

Lyme - The tabulator tender checks the time...only 10 hours to go.

Griswold

Saturday Feb. 2, 2008

New London - I could not resist. Can you blame me?

Tuesday Jan. 29, 2008

New London - It is not often that you find live entertainment in a coffee shop in the middle of the afternoon on a Tuesday, but I am glad that I did.

Busy night on the photo desk

Friday Jan. 25, 2008

New London - Working the photo desk means staring at a computer from 4:00 p.m. until 1:00 a.m. the following morning. Tonight however I took a night scene from The Day's roof and then went to a double shooting around 11:00 p.m. Both victims were taken to the hospital and their injuries do not sound life threatening, though one was flown to New Haven after being shot multiple times. I will not go into detail as to where he was shot, but lets just say he will have a hard time sitting down for a while. Needless to say it has a been a crazy night. Can't wait to see what tomorrow brings.

Thursday Jan. 24, 2008

Foxwoods Casino - I had to photograph a local boxer who is making his professional debut tomorrow night. Today was the weigh-in, and after getting the standard pose and flex shots I decided to hang out with him back stage waiting for his physical. Even though the exposure was a beast in this shot, I like the look of intensity in his eyes. Of course when he fights tomorrow night, I will be working desk shift.
